This is a beautiful damascene brooch with a detailed filigree frame with a gold inlay bird and flowers on a black inlay.
Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals, in our case gold, into one anothertypically, gold or silver is used into a darkly oxidized steel background to produce intricate patterns similar to niello. The English term comes from a resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk.
