Vintage Burmese Jade Pebble Snuff Bottle with Brown Jade Skin

The story with this jade snuff bottle is unknown. Back in the days when jade carvers, professional and amateurs, bought jade stones which literally look like any nugget or rock. One carver found this little rock, he polished off the stone surface and found a greyish celadon jade with a thin layer of russet color that is so typical of Burmese jades. He carefully fashioned a snuff bottle out of the little rock, keeping the russet layer and did an engraving of a dragon fly resting on lotus leaves one one side, and more leaves on the other. The shape of the bottle is pretty much determined by the shape of the rock . The base is well done and the opening is centered. The bottle is well hollowed. Collectors like jade bottles that are made from jade rocks, The less than common shape adds to its charm, along with the pitting and veins that are commonplace.
